Note that these units can be hot swapped into and out of the UPS while it is running.

These battery systems are more complex than normal. There is an EEPROM that records when the batteries are old, and if you swap them for new without knowing about this you will still end up with the UPS thinking the batteries are old - even if freshly installed. We take care of this, and have UPS to test the cell pack in. 

It is recommended to have similar age cells in the UPS. For example its not a good idea to have some cells that are brand new, and some that are 4 years old.
