Hello We have an SUA2200XLI mounted in our comms cabinet. I have noticed that it sometimes has a loud fan noise, and other times no noise. Is this normal or is the fan on its last legs? I've got the UPS out and the fan is spinning freely.
Howdy! the SUA2200xli is a dual speed fan when its in low mode you can hardly hear it - only in a quiet room. When the UPS hits one or more of the below criteria it switches to high speed 1/ Running from cell power 2/ Output power hits a certain threshold 3/ battery charger running at high current (IE recovering capacity ASAP after power failure) 4/ Internal temp is over a certain threshold (slightly variable across models, and even units of the same model).
I think this is the third option - the UPS is running as normal and eventually get to the threhshold - the fan runs high for a period, the UPS cools down a bit and then it goes back to normal, low speed running.
We had a customer who found this a nuisance, and they aded another fan over the front of the UPS that was continually blowing at a rate that was higher than the low speed fan, and quieter than the high speed. This resulted in no cycling of the fan speed- it only moved to high mode when running from cell power in the future.
